30,000 Tis Hazari Linked with Sikhs


Tis Hazari is a neighbourhood in Old Delhi,India just south of the Northern Ridge. It is the location of the Tis Hazari District Courts, that serve as the district sessions court for the National Capital Territory, as well as several other local courts, which together constitute the largest and busiest court complex in Asia.
The area got its name from a cantonment built for a garrison of troops from the eighteenth-century Sikh misl of Hoshiarpur; 30,000 troops were garrisoned in Delhi following a defeat of the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II.This was the period that the great gurudwaras of Old Delhi were built. .
